How to properly choose a kayak

Basic types of Kayaks

When choosing a suitable kayaking, it is most important to determine the purpose for which I will want to use the kayak.

  • Kayaks on wild water are 2 to 3 m long. Emphasis is placed on high durability and a good chime so that they are well maneuvably in the pearl and between stones. Compared to tourist and marine kaywns are considerably slower. They have a very limited or even no luggage compartment.

  • The tourist kayaks are 3 to 4 m long. They are designed to hike on rivers and lakes as a rule on one-day rafting.

  • Speed Kayaks are specials made from carbon designed for performance padging on straight and slightly flowing water. They are characterized by ease and speed, but at the same time instability. Stability on this kayak can only be maintained by experienced kayaking.

  • Marine kayaks are the most versatile ships that combine stability, speed and comfortable spacious seating. They are the most suitable choice for everyday and multi-day wandering on rivers, lakes and of course at sea. That's why we decided to specialize in this type of kayaks. They are generally equipped with waterproof suitcases, sufficiently spacious to fit all the necessary for long and several weeks. Perhaps their only negative negation is slower and higher weight caused by a number of accessories. Most sea kayaks are equipped with a rudry.

Construction material

  • Plastic is the most widely used material in the manufacture of sea kayaks. It is characterized by durability and almost unlimited durability. The main disadvantage are the high weight, the greater the roughness of the surfaces making the kayak slightly impees. Differences can be found in the quality of plastics of individual producers. In particular, more powerful plastics are significantly more susceptible to rupture. Softer plastics such as HTP, which is used by the German manufacturer of the accepon are significantly less susceptible to cracks and damage to impact.

+ Extreme Mechanical Resistance
+ Fall resistance from height
+ resistance to extremely high and low temperatures (with the same boat you can paddle in both articulating and tropical conditions)
+ Low Price
-The heaviest material

  • Carbon is a premium material for the production of kayaks. It is lightweight, stiff and has a perfect slip. It is also used in the production of all the top racing kayaks. Its biggest ills is its fragility and price. However, if you are paying attention to your things, you can weigh them and meet with only the best, the Karbuoy kayak is right for you.

+ up to 25% lighter material than plastic
+ Elegant shapes and look
+ Easy handling out of water
-more susceptible to mechanical damage and scratches such as HTP and ABS plastic
-High price

  • Fiberglass is a cheaper variant of carbon. It has similar properties to carbon, but is significantly cheaper, more flexible and heavier. Fiberglass ships are still considerably lighter than plastic.

+ up to 20% lighter material than plastic
+ Elegant shapes and look
+ Easy handling out of water
-more susceptible to mechanical damage and scratches such as HTP and ABS plastic
-Higher price

  • ABS Plastic is a new technology in the production of kayaks, in which the plastic skeleton of the kayak is poured under pressure. This has obtained these ships diametrically different characteristics from the plastics used so far. Using this technology, the kayaking weight was reduced by up to 5kg, bringing the weight of the carbon kayaks closer, but at significantly higher durability. The kayak of ABS plastic is ideal especially if you are a traditional plastic kayak heavy, but the carbon is expensive and you don't want to look out for every stone. Its disadvantage is perhaps mainly the limitation of the choice of the model. At present, this unique technology produces only 4 models of sea kayaks-Vajda X1 and X2, accept Prilite Marlin and the smaller Prilite Marlin LV.

+ Lighter than HTP plastic
+ More resistant than carbon
+ Low Price
-more susceptible to mechanical damage and scratches than HTP plastic

Add-ons

  • Waterproof chambers/Suitcases have given the marine kayak the ability to securely pack into their aggregate the amount of material: camping equipment, clothing, cooker, food,… Even if the kayaking is rebuttal, only a minimum of water will be given to the chambers. It is therefore recommended that important parts of the equipment be packaged even in smaller watertight bags. For a longer voyage it is ideal to have two large chambers. One front and one at the back, which conveniently fits everything needed for camping and one cabin, with easy access from the cockpit during the voyage. As each chamber also increases the weight of the ship, more chambers have not been certified for normal navigers. Some tourist kayaking have only one rear chamber. It is, of course, more practical than without a chamber, but it is only suitable for day trips. If we had all the camping equipment loaded only into the back chamber, the butt would be overloaded and the front spike would be erect too far and the kayak would be poorly controlled.

  • The rudder is a recommended accessory for most marine kayaks. The trip improves the handling of the kayaking and you will appreciate it in particular with a laden kayak in the side wind, when it would otherwise be necessary to constantly straighture the direction of the paddle on one side. There is no necessity for the most pressing models of the rudder, and many of the ProFi sea Kayakars reject it because they want to control the kayak exclusively with their "Skillom". When teaching the basics of paddles, we recommend that you first learn how to control without using the rudders.

  • Seating tends to be an important issue, especially if you want to business longer cruises. It is definitely advisable to choose a kayak with comfortable seating to sit in the kayaking for a long time not being suffering for you. As a general rule, even the most deprived sessions do not have to sit down, so we recommend that you try it before buying. This is also one of the reasons why we are so interested in making this possibility every customer before buying a kayaking. Therefore, do not hesitate to contact us if you are considering buying and you do not know the advice of your choice. There we have a wide range of kayaks to try. With us you have the opportunity to try a kayak even on a longer meet.

  • Various laces, rubber bands, on-board nets and cabin trunks can be a practical helper when you want to leave the map in a watertight, spare paddle, hat, bottle, or anything else. Many times you don't even have to have anything to use.
